Does SQL Server use any type of encryption internally ?
eg. when I take backup of a database is it encrypted if yes then how many bit encryption does it use ?
When a client makes a connection to SQL 2000 server, does it use encryption ? if yes then how many bit encryption is it ?
Any help would be appreciated.
ThanksHi ,
sql server allows for encryption of data for both 16-bit and 32-bit clients with the encryption option of the Multi-Procotol Network Library.
to enable encryption you can select the "Enable multi-protocol encryption" checkbox in the sql server setup program.
hope this clarifies your doubt.
thanks

Encrypting datafile and backups
Hi
I read good article on EFS
http://www.sqlservercentral.com/colu...enting_efs.asp
How do you do encryption of backups
I found that the backup made from a encrypted data if recovered are not
encrypted as it is OS encrytion and not database.
Also another interesting question on same line:
If the domain account used to start the sqlserver and encryption is deleted
and recreated with the same login/password will that user be able to decrypt
the files.
Mangesh
Also if we can recover the encrypted file

You can use a tool like LiteSpeed to encrypt your backups (url below).

Encrypting Backups
Is there any way to encrypt a backup written to a tape drive?
I know its possible to do when backing up to disk (using an encrypted file
system), but don't see how to achieve the same with tape.
We want to take our backups off-site, and though it would be prudent to
encrypt the data in casae it was lost, stolen, etc.
Thanks,
LenYou might want to look at some 3rd party apps such as SQLLiteSpeed. They
can compress and encrypt the backups.

Empty log file
Hello
Someone said to me that only a complete tape backup will empty the log file. THe log is backed up but the file is not empty
I thought that a complete backup to disk or tape will empty the log file
Do anyone know the answer
Regard
Stefan NäsmanI'm not sure what you mean by "complete backup". A database backup does not
empty the log file, nor does a differential, file or filegroup backup. The
only backup type that actually empties a log file is a transaction log
backup. If you don't want to do transaction log backups (for some strange
reason), then just put the database in simple recovery mode.

Empty a Database SQL 2000
Hello,
Is there a way to export a database and delete the contents of it as
it creates the backup - leaving the database intact but devoid of
data?
Thanks,
TmuldHi,
You could create SP which uses BACKUP and TRUNCATE TABLE statement, I
guess. Is it something you want, or is there another constraint?

TmuldHi,
You could create SP which uses BACKUP and TRUNCATE TABLE statement, I
guess. Is it something you want, or is there another constraint?

Hello,
Is there a way to export a database and delete the contents of it as
it creates the backup - leaving the database intact but devoid of
data?
Thanks,
