1)
Enterprise Manager-->General Tab, Tick AutoStart SQL Server Agent
2)
In Services Control Panel Applet, you can set the SQLServerAgent service
to AutoStart.
or if these don't work, you could even do this:
3)
CREATE PROC sp_startagent
AS
exec master..xp_cmdshell 'net start sqlserveragent', no_output
GO
exec sp_procoption N'sp_startagent', N'startup', N'true'
GO

enabling and disabling of agents question
on the properties page for an agent (I referring mainly to snapshot and
merge agents), on the general tab there is an 'enable' check box. Then on
the schedule tab there is also an 'enable' checkbox for the shedule.
If the enable checkbox on the general tab is not checked (disabled) but the
enable checkbox on the schedule is checked (enabled) will the agent run?
The reason I ask is that my merge agent was running even though I'm looking
at the enable check box and it is not checked? The only thing I can think
of is that I unchecked 'enable' while the agent was currently running..
maybe I did not stop it first.. could that be the explanation?
any info is appreciated. thanks.
DJC,
yes - you need to stop synchronizing to stop the job, and disabling it just
sets the property without stopping it. 'Start Synchronizing' and 'Stop
Synchronizing' are actually independant of this property though.
HTH,
Paul Ibison

Enable logging for merge agent
Hi,
how can I enable output logging for merge agent if subscriptions type is
anonymous (merge replication between sql server 2000 and sql server ce 2.0)?
Marius,
logging is a bit different with CE. Have a look at the section entitled SQL Server CE Server Agent Logging on this MSDN page:http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/de...bleconnect.asp

Empty Tables at subscriber without error messages with Transactional Replication
Hi,
I use a transactional replication and sometimes I realize that all or
some tables at subscriber are empty but the agent history don't log any
error message. All the informations at the publisher is ok. This
morning, I looked to the data at 10AM and all was fine but an hour
after some tables was empty. The snapshot doesn't start and no one use
the subscriber's database.
Any ideas?
Patrick Simard
Patrick - do you have access to Log Explorer or similar tools? It might be
worht investigating the subscriber logs. Typically I've fond a developer
process responsible for this type of thing, or a cascade trigger which
shouldn't exist on the subscriber.
Cheers,
