enabling Snapshot history

I want to enable history for my report but on the property page there is a
red warning saying that I have not registered credentials for the report. (I
think it means the datasource).
So in the docs it says that credentials are required for datasources that
have subscriptions enabled. But I don't have or want any subscriptions - I
just want to enable history for a report that is never subscribed to.
But, it looks like I have to do this for my report regardless if it uses
subscriptions. I suppose that's just a quirk in the system.
It asks for a connection string - a connection string to what? The
reportserver database?
It asks for a uid and password - whose uid and password do I need to enter?
Is this explained anywhere in the docs?

I understand that you have questions about storing credentials for
datasources when configuring history of reports. If I'm off-base, please
let me know.
This behavior is as designed because report server has to know how to
connect to the data source of a specific report when creating report
history snapshot. It cannot prompt users to input credentials as that in
UI/Web forms.
The connection string shall be the same as that in the shared data source.
You could find it in the properties of the shared data source. You could
copy it directly from there directly. It is not connection string to report
server but data srouce of the specific report you configure.
As for credential, you shall select "credentials supplied by the user
running the report", and other options when necessary. As for the user
name/password, you shall input the Windows/SQL credentials you want the
report to connect to external data source. If it is Windows domain user,
you shall also select "Use as Windows credentials when connecting to the
data source"

enabling and disabling of agents question

on the properties page for an agent (I referring mainly to snapshot and
merge agents), on the general tab there is an 'enable' check box. Then on
the schedule tab there is also an 'enable' checkbox for the shedule.
If the enable checkbox on the general tab is not checked (disabled) but the
enable checkbox on the schedule is checked (enabled) will the agent run?
The reason I ask is that my merge agent was running even though I'm looking
at the enable check box and it is not checked? The only thing I can think
of is that I unchecked 'enable' while the agent was currently running..
maybe I did not stop it first.. could that be the explanation?
any info is appreciated. thanks.

yes - you need to stop synchronizing to stop the job, and disabling it just
sets the property without stopping it. 'Start Synchronizing' and 'Stop
Synchronizing' are actually independant of this property though.
